Volcano Sunrise Photography With My Favourite Landscape Lens | Nikon Z8

It’s the 5th day of our landscape photography trip in Indonesia, and we arrive at Volcano Mt Ijen at last! We set our alarms at 12:30 midnight and set forth to photograph the sunrise at this iconic landmark.

In this video I share about my favourite NIKON Z landscape photography lens, the NIKKOR Z 14-30MM F4 S. It’s a small, lightweight compact lens that covers an excellent focal range, does not have a protruding front element so that it fits most filters easily. It’s also sharp and renders colours beautifully.

The hike up Mt Ijen is cold and steep. We hired "Ijen Taxis" to help us cart our photography equipment up the mountain. These "Ijen Taxis" used to sulphur miners who spent their lives carrying heavy sulphur up and down the mountain on their shoulders, often causing fractures that heal and get broken again repeatedly. Their lungs are also often badly damaged by the toxic fumes in the sulphur mines. Paying them for this service means they get paid much more for lighter work, so they're usually very thankful for the additional income.
