BenQ Screenbar Halo 2, is it Useful?

BenQ Screenbar Halo 2

So BenQ reached out and asked me if I’d like to try out their Screenbar. Now I’ve been an honest BenQ user for over a decade and I love their colour accurate monitors. My weapon of choice for colour accuracy while editing photos is the BenQ SW271, a 27-inch monitor that costs a whooping $1,600 in Singapore dollars. That said, I always enjoy it when brands I genuinely use want to collaborate with me, so I said yes.

What Does it Do?

Basically it’s a desklamp that sits on top of your monitor, so if you’re a photographer/content creator working in a small room in Singapore like I am, you’ll understand that desk space is valuable real estate. With the screenbar sitting atop your monitor, you no longer need a standing lamp at your desk. This nifty gadget also has a few surprising tricks up its sleeve.

A Quick Glance of the BenQ Screenbar Halo 2

  • Asymmetric front lighting design to reduce screen glare and reflections, this means the light wouldn’t cause a glare on your screen.

  • Backlight available too.

  • Adjustable colour temperature.

  • Preset lighting modes so you can save your favourite settings.

  • Presence sensor so the light turns on when you approach and off when you go off.

  • Wireless dial to control all of these settings.

  • Ensures a consistent light and colour environment while you’re working.

My Genuine Final Thoughts

Full disclosure, this post is 100% sponsored by BenQ Singapore. That said, here are my thoughts on the device:

Is it a must-have for my editing workflow? Definitely not. While I appreciate the space savings, I can’t honestly say that it’s something crucial for my editing setup. There’s an added bonus of having consistent lighting so that helps with colour accuracy. Is it nice to have? Definitely yes! There’s something satisfying about a light setup that turns on by itself when you approach, and turns itself off when you leave without having to touch a switch. I see this as something nice to have for a photographer, a pleasant gift that will make any desktop setup a lot cooler, though its benefits are more of a luxury than a real life need.
